Windows 7 user profile maximum size
Hi Dennis. Our big concern is with service availability during the migration. We have a couple approaches: Disable logins and log off users to prevent profile corruption. You may want to provide RDP access with temporary profiles during the migration. Simply restore the backups to the new location. Keep in mind, users may not have the most current file changes if you restore from backups. However, you'd still have the original profile disks i.
Moving the RDP profiles is easy. The challenge is finding the solution that works best for your organization. Hello, The migration involve 2 process: 1 copy the files 2 change the UNC path How can i achieve the second actions?
That's right, you'll need to change the UNC path if you move the profile disks to a new share. Steven M. Jordan Reading 4 Comments. Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I ran disk clean-up and defrag and every other clean-up known to man. I had this same issue about a year after I first installed Windows 7 Pro. I didn't think at that time to try and recreate the user profile so I just rebuilt the whole system. I tried safe mode and there was no change. As for the size not being too big, I have never had anything larger than 20GB at most. In fact when Windows stopped holding my folder settings large icons and coming up with detailed list, that's when the profile began to grow and things began to go crazy.
I have been told by Microsoft that anything over 20GB is way too big so I'm confused. Yesterday I tried to plug in my laptop into my system as I have a small home network and I couldn't get it to connect.
About fours months ago I had a hard drive fail and was able to clone it to the new one. That decreased the user profile size to around 28GB. Also, I forgot to mention that the space on the C: drive is being depleted by something. On occasion the space will recover. It's usually the same amount of space that the user profile changes.
I have a feeling that the profile has become corrupt. My question is why won't the system allow me to copy the profile to the new user account as Windows help says it will. It's simply greyed out. I wanted to let you know that I downloaded the file and it looks like the hog of the system is the Microsoft updates.
Nothing appears to be out of the ordinary so now I'm wondering if I'm going down the wrong path. All I know is that my web performance is suffering the worst. Perhaps some setting got changed. It took about 10 minutes to download that small "tree size free" file. I'm so frustrated right now that I'm ready to say the heck with it and just rebuild the system.
Other users' tiles are not guaranteed to be up-to-date in their Temp folders. Therefore, if applications use User A's Temp folder to obtain User B's tile, those applications can get an out-of-date image file. User Environment Variables. Fast User Switching.
