The park is located four miles east of New Caney approximately 30 miles north of Houston off Hwy Lake Houston Wilderness Park is the only park in the departments inventory that allows overnight camping. This is not an RV park; only camp hosts can park RVs on the property. Although there is no hunting allowed in the park, there are plenty of other things to do.
It offers a variety of outdoor learning experiences for people of all ages including camping, hiking, trail running, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, birding, fishing, and horseback riding visitors must bring own bikes, fishing equipment, watercraft, and horses. Most of the park is heavily forested with beautiful trails which provide a perfect setting for photography, nature study, bird watching, and relaxing. The position is a part-time volunteer position assisting with essential end of day and after hours functions related to guest safety and security.
This position has the possibility of being hired on as a contract employee through Allied Universal Security. Other duties may include but aren't limited to custodial, maintenance and backup cashiering.
In exchange for these work duties the Camp Host will be given a campsite with full hookups, and free use of facilities.
Opportunities for Site Hosts to assist in public education, resource management, visitor services, and maintenance of gardens and trails is available during unscheduled volunteer hours. We are currently seeking hosts for both the mansion and campground. Host's campers are brought to the island via barge at no cost to you. These are a minimum 6 month assignments. A full hook-up, shaded spot is provided. Laundry is available. A vehicle will be provided for host's use, thus leaving your personal vehicle on the mainland for use when you are off the island. Cabretta Campground duties include driving a pickup truck with 30ft trailer, transporting campers from ferry dock to the campground, maintaining the grounds, cleaning the bath house in between camping groups, supplying firewood and ice for campers.
There is a weight restricted bridge leading to the campground, limiting the weight of campers to 8 tons 16, lbs. The campground is a pioneer camp groups of with only 1 group at a time occupying it. It is located in a very secluded part of the island with no Wi-Fi, and limited cell service.
You must be comfortable working on your own. There is direct beach access from the campground. If none of those sources yield a job you can always contact local businesses and see if they hire seasonally.

Documenting expectations in an email about what has been agreed upon by both parties will go a long way toward settling honest lapses in memory by either party.
